Teenager Arrested In Fatal South Amboy Train Station Stabbing

A 19-year-old man from South Jersey was arrested in last month's fatal stabbing at the South Amboy Train Station, authorities said.

Bruce Matthews of Camden was charged with murder and possession of a weapon, in connection with the May 29 killing, Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Christopher L. C. Kuberiet, South Amboy Police Chief Darren LaVigne and New Jersey Transit Police Chief Christopher Trucillo said in a joint statement on Wednesday.

Robert Spiegel, 32, of South Amboy.was stabbed multiple times at 9:14 p.m. at the train station, 140 N. Broadway, the officials said in their statement.

Matthews attacked the victim and then fled the scene, authorities said. Spiegel was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:37 p.m. from his injuries, they said.

Matthews was charged on Tuesday after an investigation by Detective An Wang of the South Amboy Police Department, Detective Mark Morris of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, and Detective Laquan Hudson of the New Jersey Transit Police Department.

Kuberiet thanked the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the Camden Metro Police Department for their help apprehending Matthews, as well as the South Amboy and New Jersey Transit Police Departments for their excellent police work.

Matthews being held at the Middlesex County Jail in North Brunswick pending a detention hearing.
